Thicker material takes longer per inch of cut, but the process is stable and predictable at the full thickness range. The result is a straight cut with a smooth edge — not a slag-heavy plasma edge or a heat-degraded laser edge.

Waterjet cut tolerances on thick steel are held as tight as approximately ±0.010 inches for most profiles, with slight edge taper on the thickest cuts that can be controlled with taper-compensating heads and cutting strategy. For parts that need tighter tolerances or a machined finish on specific features, the profile can be cut on the waterjet and then finished on a mill or lathe in the same shop.
